Yippee.
And watch the caller-id carefully, because every working mother in town knows exactly who works from the dining room table and will undoubtedly start calling for the favor exchange. Except…well, work-at-home moms know how that story turns out.
Okay. Kids are coming home early, about 1:00, I think. But never can be sure. Or #2 comes home at 1 and #3 gets home earlier. Or is it later? But #4 has full day because his school’s early dismissal is next week.
Which also means I need to trek them back to school for the mandatory practices that conveniently start at the same bat time, the same bat channel immediately after regular school hours at 2:15 and 3:00, with pick ups at 4:00, 4:30 and 6:30. (No wonder I like it in the car!)
So the afternoon is shot. And since I haven’t left for the mandatory shrink-my-ass morning walk, looks like the morning is as well.
Okay. Will try again tomorrow.
what exactly is professional development day? who’s profession are they developing? Not mine, and not my children’s.
Thank you for this – made me laugh! 🙂 As did a couple of the comments on the WSJ blog which sort of alluded to this as well – parent teacher confs that are in the middle of the day, where you can’t take the kid with you.
I’m currently getting back a bit of “me” time, and I consult from home. But in addition to the two mornings of pre-school of week, I’d sorta been hoping naptime would continue until at least December. Not so much. So I empathize hugely.
Again, thanks for the levity on the subject.
Girl….Do you live at my hoouse!
Same stuff, different house. Not sure if I take comfort that so many empathize, or frustration so many households are wacked like mine. I choose comfort.
Our school district has late start every single Wednesday. It really sucks!!
EVERY WEDNESDAY???? We’re doing the first Wed of the month as early dismissal. Every Wed would push me over the edge. No can do.
This drives me crazy too. Luckily, I don’t have a really hard time adjusting my schedule for things like this, but not every work at home mom has that luxury. It makes me feel really glad that I don’t have a “regular” job.

I laughed ..sure full time working moms and dads don’t….
Thank goodness my kids are now old enough to stay at home by themselves. The schools act like they are doing the parents a favor by having early dismissal, but it is a nightmare.
